In the next five years, I want Long Beach to be recognized throughout California for its vibrant and safe neighborhoods, a strong business and economic base, and highly respected as a major center for cultural and entertainment events.

RID OUR STREETS OF GANGS AND CRIMINALS! As Mayor, Dan Baker has pledged to increase the number of uniformed officers on our streets to exceed the national average of 2 police officers per 1,000 residents. Because of his commitment to public safety, Dan is the only candidate endorsed by the Long Beach Police Officers Association.

As a former Federal Law Enforcement Officer, Baker knows that having more uniformed personnel will get gang related crime off our streets.

PUT THE BEACH BACK IN LONG BEACH! As Mayor, Dan Baker will fight for a comprehensive study to determine how we can change our breakwater to bring waves back to our beaches without endangering any homes or our port. Dan will work to protect our precious beaches and local waters by working with legislators and officials of upstream cities to keep trash and dangerous pollutants out of storm drains and rivers.

Baker was the only councilmember to support the idea of studying this critical issue when it came before the council last year.

WORK TO BEAUTIFY ALL OUR NEIGHBORHOODS! As Mayor, Dan Baker will work with residents and neighbors in every part of our city to ensure that streets, sidewalks, curbs and trees are maintained and slumlords are forced to repair decaying properties.

As 2nd District Councilmember, Dan has worked vigorously to organize and lead dozens of neighborhood cleanups, obtain funds to repair or replace our streets and sidewalks, strengthen historic preservation codes, and plant hundreds of new trees. He has worked to find new ways to beautify our city and reduce litter by creating the successful Long Beach Beautiful Program.

CREATE QUALITY YOUTH PROGRAMS IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD! As Mayor, Dan Baker will strongly support improving public education, mentoring and after-school activities, and establish quality programs to keep our kids on the right track.

As 2nd District Councilmember, Dan helped establish the "Franklin School Safe Passage Program" to ensure that kids get to and from school safely and will work to create similar programs citywide. He worked with residents to create a new pocket park, Miracle on 4th Street, and helped develop an art program for kids at the park.

HELP BUSINESSES THRIVE IN LONG BEACH! As Mayor, Dan Baker will work with every business owner to cut bureaucratic red tape that discourages new and existing businesses in Long Beach. Baker will streamline city administrative procedures to assist small and medium-sized businesses.

As Vice Mayor, Dan works with the Chamber of Commerce and other business organizations to encourage business growth and bring good jobs to our city.

ENSURE ETHICS IN OUR CITY GOVERNMENT! As Mayor, Dan Baker will ensure that we maintain the highest ethical standards in our city government. Baker will work with the new Long Beach Ethics Task Force to adopt and enforce tougher rules against conflicts of interest and ensure that our residents have input in the public process.
