Protecting Our Future

By Patrick D. Smith

Candidate for Member; California State Assembly; District 59; Democratic Party

Protecting, nurturing, and educating our children is a shared priority for our community.
Protecting, nurturing, and educating our children is a shared priority for our community. Californians agree that childcare, healthcare, and education funding are basic pillars of safety and opportunity for our kids. Yet funding for even these basic services is threatened by shrinking budgets. Funding for critical support services in our schools, including guidance and mental health counseling, has actually declined in the last decade despite a rising economy. I will fight to hold the budget line on children's programs and increase grant funding opportunities for programs to address local shortfalls. I will protect these critical services, and defend local control of budget priorities and the scope of topics and resources addressed in each community.
