I was born in India and came to the United States in 1968. I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Georgia. In 1972, I came to California to teach at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF).

I am running for the 72nd Assembly District seat because I want to use my experience as a teacher and scholar, a leader of state and national professional organizations, and a citizen of this great nation to ensure a better future and quality of life for the people of the 72nd Assembly District and for all Californians.

I have been a resident and homeowner in the 72nd Assembly for 29 years. I'm familiar with its residents, the issues that concern them, and the challenges of the 21st century. I intend to work with the local residents, community leaders, the state legislature and the governor to bring sensible solutions to the many problems facing our state and local communities today.

During the 29 years that I've been a professor of Sociology at CSU Fullerton. I've been a vocal advocate for students and faculty members, devoting my career to preserving quality, affordable access to education for all students. I am the recipient of several outstanding service awards.

As a scholar, I have participated in over forty international, national and other conferences presenting papers n the topics of migration, demographic and socio-psychological factors associated with health issues and family violence.

I've had a wide variety of leadership roles in the CSU Fullerton California Faculty Association. I am currently serving as its President and also serving as the Associate Vice-president of the statewide California Faculty Association. In addition, I've been actively working with the American Association of University Professors, the California Teachers Association, and the National Education Association. These roles have given me the opportunity to work closely with state legislators to preserve stable funding for education and improve school facilities.
