Wine Industry

By Mike Martini

Candidate for United States Representative; District 6; Democratic Party

This information is provided by the candidate
The wine industry is one of the most prominent segments of the agricultural economy in Sonoma and Marin Counties.
First and foremost, the wine industry is one of the most prominent segments of the agricultural economy of Sonoma County with millions of dollars worth of grapes crushed in Sonoma County. The number of jobs directly related to grape growing and wine making is in the thousands. The number of jobs related to the services and support of the industry makes the wine industry very important to the diversity of the local economy. This diversity has allowed the District to better weather economic cycles.

Secondly, the wine industry, along with other agricultural activities such as dairy, ranching, apples and specialty vegetables, provides the District with open space and scenic qualities. The value of the industry keeps farming as a viable option maintaining the natural beauty of the area.

Thirdly, the world-class wines produced here attract visitors from all over the world. They come to sample the wines, dine in our restaurants and stay in our hotels. The value of this tourism adds to the local economy.

As the representative for the District, I would be committed to supporting the wine industry. I support sensitive environmental regulations promoting sustainable practices; revision of constraints to personal interstate shipments; assistance with federal compliance and label approvals; provide for federal assistance to provide research for Pierce's Disease; and to provide reform for the transfer of an estate.
