Questions About the Issues

1. How would you modernize voting procedure? What kinds of new technology would you implement to increase accuracy in vote tallies?

Modernization of current system can be implemented via clearly marked electronic voting equipment. Internet voting (with security safe guard features). Telephonic touch tone voting (with security safe guard features).

2. The majority of registered voters avoid the polls on Election Day. What can be done to convince people not to squander their franchise and to participate in this quintessential democratic experience?

As the new Secretary of State I will create "The Spirit of California" which will be a joint partnership of educators, law enforcement, and private sector to promote patriotism and civic responsibilities.

3. How can California avoid some of the problems that kept people of color from voting or having their votes tallied in Florida during the last presidential election?

As a former NAACP executive, I am a strong advocate for individual civil liberties. Additionally, as an attorney, I'm knowledgeable of constitutional rights and I am fully conscious of the Voting Right Acts. I will not only successfully convey that every vote will count, but we will count every vote!

4. What is your perspective with regard to licensing businesses and granting standing to non-profit organizations?

As Secretary of State, I will streamline the procedures in licensing businesses and granting standing for non-profit organizations. In addition, will reduce the bureaucracy and develop business friendly procedures with the Secretary of State office. Also, will assist in retaining current businesses in California and will assist in bringing more businesses to our state to increase California's economic growth.
