TAXES

By Pete Bret

Candidate for Member; California State Assembly; District 2; Libertarian Party

This information is provided by the candidate
The current system of taxation penalizes hard working people who are struggling to run businesses and raise families, when we should instead be encouraging these very people who built California.
During the 1913 legislative debate on income tax Congress promised that the top tax rate would never exceed 7%, and that was on incomes over $500,000. From 1952 to 1992 state and federal taxes increased twice as fast as personal income, and today, the estimate number of hours spent by individuals and businesses to compute their taxes was over five billion (5,000,000,000). That's more time than it took to build all the cars and trucks in the U.S. last year.

I support the elimination of the state income tax. I see no reason to penalize success, hard work and a willingness to take risk as the the current system does. I support elimination of capital gains and inheritance taxes and feel that this money would better serve the state by individuals re-investing it rather than going into government coffers.

When you think about the things that you have accomplished, those things of which you are proud, they are all things that you accomplished yourself and worked hard for. I want you to keep more of what you earn to invest in your home, your business, your community and our future.
