CORONER CANDIDATE Committee: FRIENDS TO ELECT RON DeMADERIOS

My age is 61. Resided in San Mateo County for 61 years, and lived in Redwood City since 1956. Homeowner. Served four years with the United States Air Force. Spouse, Roberta, and I have been married for 37 years. Our son 32 years old is married. As a Graduate of Redwood City Sequoia High School I have continued to enhance my educational training by attending various Community Colleges. 20 years Peninsula Automotive Machinist Trades Local Lodge Member No. 1414. Retired. International association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Employed with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs for 11.5 years. I am assigned with the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau as a Field Representative. I have taken and passed California State exams, qualifying as a Funeral Director, Qualified Crematory Manager, and a certified Cremation Operator. I have taken extensive Certificated Investigative, Forensic, Regulatory, and Mediation training programs while employed with the State of California. I have acquired many skills investigating, enforcing, educating and training industry, Court Room Proceedings, and working with the Media. I assure protection to consumers from fraud, and deceitful business practices. I provide recourse to families needing assistance and guidance. During the course of investigations I interact with other enforcement and regulatory agencies. I work with Coroners throughout the State of California. I submit investigative cases for administrative actions against establishment licenses, and licensees with the State Attorney General's Office, and work with District Attorneys in criminal actions. I am instrumental in continually changing the laws that regulate an industry that controls 225,000 deaths each year in California. There are approximately 80 cemeteries, 104 crematories, 400 funeral homes, 90 cremated remain disposers in the area that I regulate within the Northern half of California. I have been trained to deal with survivors that have suffered a loss. They are emotionally vulnerable, and are not in a proper mental state enabling them to conclude important decisions in a calm or rational manner. I assure them that I will do every thing within my authority to help bring closure with dignity and respect. I will bring to the Coroner's office my knowledge of the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs Operational Procedures that regulate the death care industry, and working with consumers. I will be a valuable asset in seeking compassionate interaction with grieving families, and friends of decedents. I will continue training and improve the quality of investigations and safety of the staff. I will provide a better link with the Funeral, Cemetery, Cremation Industry, Health Department, and Medical Doctors. I support the voters' wise decision not to combine the office of the Coroner and Sheriff (Measure "A") and will continue to preserve the independence the voters of this county have the right to expect.
