Smart Voter Full Biography for Ed Voss

Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of San Jose; District 7

Ed has lived in District 7 for over 20 years. A full-time single parent, he raised his son, Ryan, who is now 23. In 1985, after 12 years in the computer industry, Ed started a multimedia computer graphics business. Through the past 16 years, Voss Media has built lasting relationships with clients worldwide.

As President of the McLaughlin Corridor Neighborhood Association (over 2,000 homes) for three consecutive terms, Ed led the neighborhood with a passion to make our neighborhood a great place to live and raise our families. MCNA won a prestigious BRICC Award, recognition as one of the finest neighborhoods in Santa Clara County, as well as many Awards and Commendations from the City of San José. For the past few years, he has helped several other District 7 neighborhoods organize, and is often asked to speak on Neighborhood Leadership at United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County events.

The Franklin-McKinley Education Foundation, known locally as the Fair Exchange, is committed to improve and enhance the community by serving the youth and families of the Fair, Franklin, Kennedy, McKinley, Meadows, Santee, and Yerba Buena schools and surrounding neighborhoods. Ed is a Founding Board Member, and has also served full-time as the Executive Director of the organization.

We all know how important smart land use decisions are to the future of Santa Clara County. District 2 County Supervisor Blanca Alvarado appointed Ed to the Santa Clara County Planning Commission, representing the San José area of the county. He currently serves as Chairperson of the County Planning Commission.

The Strong Neighborhoods Initiative is a $100,000,000 commitment made by the Mayor and the Council to unite San José communities and to strengthen our neighborhoods. Ed serves on the Neighborhood Advisory Committee, working for all the neighbors from Story Road to Tully Road, between Senter Road and US101.

Rotary is the oldest and largest Service Organization in the world. An active member of the Rotary Club of San José North, serving the Youth, Senior Citizens and other residents of District 7 and throughout San José. Ed has earned Service Awards from the Club, the Northern California Rotary District and from Rotary International. He has served two terms on the Board of Directors, and currently serves as the Sponsor/Liason to the Interact Club of Andrew Hill High School.

Ed has always been active in the community. He has also served as the Advisor to an Explorer Boy Scout Post, as a volunteer First Aid/CPR Instructor for the San José Branch of the American Red Cross, and as an usher/greeter at his church.
