Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Michael M. Markman

Candidate for
Democratic Party County Central Committee; Assembly District 21

This information is provided by the candidate

I hope to join the County Committee as an elected member for three reasons:

  • First, I want to build interest in the Democratic Party among young people. We can accomplish this goal through organizations like Peninsula Young Democrats, and through closer contacts with high school and college Democrat organizations.

  • Second, I want to continue to strengthen the Democratic Party in the Bay Area generally, and in Santa Clara in particular. The County Committee can and should serve as a beacon for Democratic candidates, and for people interested in becoming more involved in the Party. It can and should also move to endorse judicial candidates, as the San Francisco Committee has done for many years. And, if campaign finance reform becomes law in Washington, DC, the County Committee (as the local Party organization for Santa Clara County) will have a significant role in fundraising and in getting out the vote on election day.

  • Third, I want to encourage Democrats to work to think regionally to solve Bay Area-wide problems. The solution to our dilemmas in transportation and education can be found in regional cooperation, across town, city, and even county bounds. An organization like the County Democratic Committee can and should work to make this happen.

  • How You Can Help: Please help make these goals become a reality by voting for me on March 5. If you don't live in the portion of the 21st Assembly District that is within Santa Clara County, then you can help by passing this message along to friends, family, and colleagues who do. I am not, however, soliciting or accepting any campaign contributions. Wherever you live, and however you can help get the word out, your support is sincerely appreciated. Don't forget to vote on March 5th!
