A University of Santa Clara School of Law graduate.

I have 21 years of extensive civil and criminal law experience. I have handled thousand of criminal cases and trained and supervised other attorneys. Before entering private practice as a named partner in the Law firm of Nakano, Sugihara & Bocanegra, I worked with the County for 7 years as a government attorney with the Public Defender's Office. I also worked as an attorney with the San Jose City Attorney's Office. I have been in private practice for the past 13 years.

I currently have my own office. I am an experienced trial attorney, community leader, and devoted father, who understands both the importance of keeping our community safe and that violent crimes should not be tolerated. However, I also support the rehabilitation of nonviolent drug offenders, treatment programs for minor drug offenders, and fair treatment for the mentally ill.

I have broad experience in both civil and criminal law. I understand the importance of treating everyone who appears in court with fairness and respect.

I am 48 years old. My wife, a Neonatal critical care R.N., and I have been happily married for 26 years with two children. We enjoy camping, hiking, and attending athletic events. I have coached youth sports and I am an Assistant Socutmaster.

The SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS endorses Arthur Bocanegra. "Bocanegra is an affable lawyer who judges have grown to respect. As a judge, he'd treat everyone before him with respect." From his years as a defense lawyer, Arthur Bocanegra would add balance to a judiciary dominated by former prosecutors. He deserves to be elected." [San Jose Mercury News]

The PALO ALTO DAILY NEWS endorses Arthur Bocanegra. "Our choice is Art Bocanegra, who we believe will apply the law with common sense and fairness for all. A Santa Clara University School of Law graduate with 21 years experience in both civil and criminal law. Bocanegra impressed us with his ability to identify the positive and negative features of a variety of issues."

"Of the four candidates Bocanegra seems to be the most in tune with the voters of California who approved Proposition 36,...." [Palo Alto Daily News]
