Four years ago, when I was elected District Attorney the office was failing. Gang violence was out of control. The Family Support Division was an embarassment to the county, ranking 54th out of California's 58 counties.

I took a leave of absence from my position as a Superior Court Judge to run for District Attorney. I promised to crack down on gang violence, reform the D.A.'s Family Support Division to hold deadbeat dads accountable and make the environment safer for Orange County.

I have kept those promises and pledge to continue these reforms.

GANG VIOLENCE IS DOWN

The reforms I have put in place have worked. Since I took over the office, the overall crime rate has dropped, gang crime has hit a five-year low and gang murders are down 50%.
Working with Sheriff Mike Carona and local Police Chiefs, I created a Regional Gang Enforcement Team. Gang membership is down by 2,000 youths and there are 33 fewer gangs operating in Orange County.
Under my leadership, the office has enforced the death penalty and used the Three Strikes law to protect the community and the 10-20-Life law to put gun-toting criminals away for good.
Orange County is a safer county today because of these reforms.

CHILD SUPPORT COLLECTIONS UP

Before I was elected the Family Support Division was in need of serious reform after several years of neglect and mismanagement.
Today, child support collections are up over 60%. Children and taxpayers are benefiting because I have kept my promise to hold deadbeat dads accountable.

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTED

Before I took office, polluters dumped sewage into our soil and pollutants into our oceans and streams. I have increased the environmental protection resources by 360 percent. I brought the first felony prosecution in Huntington Beach for sewage discharges and tough prosecutions for dumping pollutants into our waters.

I will continue to work hard to make our county a safer place to live and raise our families.
