Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Gregory A. "Greg" Powers

Candidate for
Member; County Board of Education; Trustee Area 5

This information is provided by the candidate

This race is only about our children and their future. There is a very clear choice in this election.

California verses the rest of the nation:

Our children are our nation's future. As a society we are failing our greatest national treasures. In California, as compared to the rest of the nation, our students are last in science, second to last in math and third to last in reading. Three quarters of all incoming college students at the CSU system cannot pass the basic reading entrance exam. OUR CHILDREN DESERVE MUCH BETTER!

County Board of Education success (or lack thereof):

At the county schools, we have a 21% drop out rate. This is unacceptable. The county has 3x the number of administrators per student than all the local districts. In addition, even more appalling, it appears that the district does not test or follow the growth of their students. If there is no testing, then where is the accountability?

To achieve success for our children they must be served by leaders who are not afraid to confront the issues of the day. The county Board President has not taken the required leadership to educate the children under her care.

The current board President has stated that she should be held accountable for the results of the board. It is time to hold the people in power responsible for their actions and decisions.

It is time we understand the reality that these trustee positions are important and that it DOES matter. Not only do our children's futures depend on good leadership, but we all do.

Greg Powers is a proven leader. Greg Powers is the one who will put our childrens academic education first.

Greg believes:

  • Our schools need to focus on Academics, not using the schools as government social labs.
  • There should be more local control. Less Federal or State control. (only 4% of the budget comes from the federal government - yet they control the majority of the classroom)
  • Accountability, for adminisrators, students, teachers and parents.
  • Charter Schools and other parental options.
  • Teaching of proper American History: Pride in our country, respect for our flag and our citizens, and the understanding of principals and values that our country was founded on.

It is time for a change for the better!

Our children need leadership. Our children need a strong academic education. Our children need to learn about right and wrong. Our children need to learn cost and consequence.

We should be doing everything possible to advance our children's academic education and secure their future success.

Greg Powers is that Leader.

There is ample evidence that proves that our schools are not currently serving our children well and we need to fix it. Please review the facts that our educational system is failing our children and realize that we have a clear choice in whether we continue with the status quo of declining scores and morals or do we encourage new focused leadership.

The choice is yours. Go to the polls on March 5th and vote. Please remember to vote for Gregory A. "Greg" Powers, for Orange County Board of Education, District 5.
