COURAGE

By Terry Lee Kaiser

Candidate for Sheriff/Coroner/Public Administrator; County of Monterey

This information is provided by the candidate
Alone among the candidates for Sheriff, Terry Kaiser has the courage to say that many of the current policies of the Sheriff's Department compromise the safety of Monterey County's 400,000 residents and waste the hard-earned dollars of taxpayers.

Terry believes the people of Monterey County deserve to have a Sheriff's Department that puts their interests first. That means enacting new scheduling, training, and staffing policies that:

  • Restore the five day work week so that deputies are available when needed by the public, chronic personnel shortages are ended, and thousands of dollars in overtime pay are saved.

  • Assure that deputies trained for field work are assigned to field work, not tasks unrelated to their training.

  • Place more deputies on the street fighting crime, not in bureaucracy shuffling paper.

  • Insist that the public is always treated with respect and courtesy by all employees of the Sheriff's Department.

  • Enhance the Department's commitment to the needs of senior citizens, those living alone, those suffering from neglect, and those victimized by scam artists and unscrupulous telemarketers.

  • Bring the Narcotics Division to full strength and resume the campaign to shut down meth labs and stop the flow of illegal drugs.
