DETAILED BIOGRAPHY OF LARRY R. MULLEN

I was born in Youngstown, Ohio, fifty-eight years ago. My family moved to Fresno when I was four. Fresno has been my residence for fifty-four years.

I was raised in Fresno and attended Fresno schools. I attended Fremont, Roeding, and Homan elementary schools, Hamilton Junior High School, and graduated from Fresno High School in 1961. I took a summer school class at Fresno State College before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard.

I am a Vietnam era vetran and served a four year enlistment in the USCG. I was honorably discharged from the USCG in 1965, and attended college on the GI Bill.

I graduated from Fresno State College in 1969, with a BS degree in Agriculture. I earned a teaching credential in
1970.

I taught in the Central Union/Unified School District for fourteen years. I was active in contract negotiations and served on many committees during my tenure in the Central District. I moved to George M. DeWolf High School in the Fresno Unified School District eighteen years ago as a science teaacher. I currently teach Work Experience at DeWolf.

I have been a teacher for thirty-two years and have been a member of the NEA/CTA/FTA my whole career. I have joined various subject matter organizations over my career, and am currently a member of the CAWEE (California Association of Work Experience Educators).

My career accomplishments include serving as a mentor teacher in the FUSD for three years. I was honored as the District V Teacher-of-the-Year of the CCEA ( California Continuation Education Association) for my work in reading instruction and teaching reading in the content area (science). I am a certified groove welder.

Throughout my adult working life, I have been a strong supporter of organized labor. In addition to membership in the California Teachers Association, I have withdrawal cards from the Teamsters and Machinists unions.

I have been married for 33 years. My wife and I have two children and four and seven-ninths grandchildren.

I am a member of the Fresno Free College Foundation and volunteer as a board operator on KFCF, 88.1 FM radio. I joined the Green Party about two years ago and have tabled registering voters and volunteered at various functions during the Nader/LaDuke campaign. I currently assist the Freno County Central Committee in various ways and look forward to being an elected voting member of the Fresno County Green Party Central Committee.
