I am a life-long resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, having grown up in Hayward and moving to Livermore in 1985. My wife and I have two sons who attend Livermore schools. I work in Fremont as a Senior Water Quality Chemist for the Alameda County Water District where I have worked for over twenty years.

It has been an honor and a privilege to have served as your representative on the Zone 7 Board of Directors for the last 12 years. In that tme, Zone 7 has almost doubled our water entitlements, added new wells and groundwater storage, making our supply more secure in times of drought. Our combination of multiple sources, wells and surface water treatment plants, makes Zone 7's water system one of the most reliable in the State. Recently, Zone 7 was nationally recognized by the EPA and the national American Water Works Association when it was awarded the "Partnership for Safe Drinking Water Award", which placed Zone 7 in the top one per cent of water districts in the nation. I am proud of the hard work and dedication from our staff that this award represents.

To increase protection of our groundwater resources, I wrote the first resolution of its kind in the state of California, calling for the discontinuation of MtBE as a fuel additive. The Zone 7 Board passed it unanimously, recognizing the devastating potential that MtBE could have on groundwater reserves around the State. That resolution started a groundswell of public support that eventually moved Governor Davis to call for its use to end.

I am uniquely qualified to serve on the Zone 7 Board. My experience spans the depth of water issues across the State. I have taught marine biology and estuarine ecology. For several years, I worked in a wastewater treatment plant and understand the treatment processes and their limitations. I studied fresh water ecology and my pre-med background enables me to understand the epidemiology of water-borne disease and the toxicology of contamination. I have worked closely with the EPA, the American Water Works Association, the California Rural Water Association and have conducted training workshops across the State to improve water quality and the proficiency of countless water quality professionals.

My professional career has been dedicated to water quality, public health and safety. With your vote, I will continue to work on your behalf as a member of the Zone 7 Water Board.

Thank you.
