Underserved Students in the Tri-Valley

By Yvonne M. (Martinez) Cerrato

Candidate for Member; Alameda County Board of Education; Trustee Area 7

This information is provided by the candidate
Currently there is a small, but very needy group in the Tri-Valley that lacks reasonable access to an education.
There is a need for a local community day school in the Tri Valley area. Community day schools serve high risk students. Currently, students who fall into this category and are living in the Tri-Valley must travel to Hayward to go to school. If their parents can't make the drive back and forth four times a day, they must take public transit and transfer several times to get to school every morning. This can take an hour or more on a bad day. I think the difficulty getting to school every day puts these students at a greater risk of dropping out. They need a school in the Tri-Valley. I will find the resources necessary to make sure this happens.
