Storm Water Problems: Camp Dennison, Morganstrace & Polk Run Creek

Civil Engineer Studies
CAMP DENNISON The Symmes Township Board of Trustees in July hired a Civil Engineer to study the storm water problems in Camp Dennison. We met with the residents of Camp Dennison in August to again discuss some of the preliminary findings of the Engineer's study. The major problem is the funding of the results. Many residents feel that we,the Township, should fix the individual problems that occurred from the flooding. As a public entity and by law, we cannot go on private property to fix each individual's flooding problems. We can, however, fix the problems on the Township roads and ask the county to fix the problems on the county roads which will help solve the problems of the residents. We are applying for grants to help us with this problem. The solutions are very expensive and it takes time to to get all political entities on the same page. This does not mean that we are not doing our job of fixing the problem.

MORGANSTRACE Again, a Civil Engineer met with the Bd. of Trustees on October 16th to give their recommendations for resolving the water problem. The primary solution is to widen the culvert to allow the volume of water to enter the pipe and therefore, not flood onto the residents property. On Tuesday, October 30th, there will be a public hearing for all Morganstrace residents to discuss the matter. The Civil Engineer will be present.

POLK RUN CREEK On November 13th, the Warren and Hamilton County Enginners and representatives from the City of Montgomery, Sycamore, Symmes and Deerfield Townships and West Chester, will meet to discuss the flooding problem of the Polk Run Creek. This will be a fact-finding meeting for members of the task force only. We will be searching and trying to find solutions for this particular problem. It is a regional problem that needs a regional solution. We will keep all the residents informed of the possible results or solutions.
