Mariemont and the Great Flood

By Michael Martin "Mike" Sage

Candidate for Member Council; Village of Mariemont

This information is provided by the candidate
The drainage sewer system must be ugraded to handle the unexpected.
Though Mariemont was not the most affected by the floods of July, property owners here suffered considerable damage. In part this was due to the enormous amount of rain that fell within a very short period. But other less damaging rains have also occured this summer and in the pastthat have led to basement flooding. We need to upgrade our sewer and draingae systems in the most economical way possible. A survey should be made of potential problem areas and steps taken to remedy the situation. I propose that the Public Works Committee form a special task force to study the matter and to work out a feasible solution that stays within the village's finances as soon as possible. It should also study the possibility of external funding from state and county governments.
