?Addressing Major Problems Facing Cincinnati Public Schools?

By Harriet Russell

Candidate for Board Member; Cincinnati City School District

This information is provided by the candidate
The major problems facing the Cincinnati Public Schools are:

1) continue to raise student achievement 2) improve the educational choices for our students 3) renovate and replace our school buildings and 4) increase public support for public schools.

Student achievement will be raised by redesigning/restructuring schools to provide smaller classes, teams of committed, highly qualified teachers who are supported by other staff, parents, and community partners. Having established standards in each grade and subject, we will measure effectiveness.

Cincinnati Public Schools is increasing quality educational choices as we redesign our high schools providing Information Technology at Taft, University courses and credit at Western Hills, and Career Technical courses at Woodward. This is just the beginning.

With meaningful community and parent participation on the planning committees at each school, we will renovate and replace our school buildings. At every site we are encouraging partnerships such as the one with Children?s Hospital at Rockdale Academy which will result in a full health clinic at the school for the children and their families.

As the School Board supports the partnerships and the meaningful parent and community participation in planning, support for children in Cincinnati Public Schools will increase.

I am strongly committed to these ongoing school reforms.
