Biography Judge Nadine Allen

Judge Nadine Allen brings a variety of experiences to her current service on the Hamilton County Municipal Court. She has served as a defense attorney, as well as an Assistant City Solicitor. Her experience as a judge has given her a reputation of being fair but firm on the bench.

Judge Allen broke many barriers and obstacles in her 1987 and 1989 elections, and in Hamilton County became the First African American person to hold a county-wide judicial office, and the first Black woman elected to any county-wide office. In 1989, she attained the highest vote total among eight judges and established her immense popularity county-wide.

The Judge was educated at Ohio State University, Capital University Law School, Mt. St Joseph College, and L'Universite de Laval in Quebec. Her work in pioneering Work Release of women homemakers, expanding the Community Service program, and increasing alcohol/drug treatment for abusers, co-sponsoring the License Intervention Program and currently co-chairing the Magistrate Training committee has brought about the improved administration of justice in the local courts.

She was the first woman Commissioner on the Ohio Supreme Court Grievance Board and has been honored with many awards including Phi Delta Kappa's "Outstanding Woman of the Year", Who' s Who in American Law, YWCA "Career Woman of Achievement", Cincinnati Women's Political Caucus, "Woman of the Year" and other civic awards. Judge Allen has served as Vice Chair of the Ethics and Substance Abuse Committee of the Ohio Judicial Council, and chairs the International Subcommittee of the National Association of Women Judges.

Judge Allen has been active in professional and community organizations, including the National Bar Association, Black Lawyers Association of Cincinnati, the Coalition Against Domestic Violence, NAACP, Jack & Jill of America, Inc., Women' Political Caucus, Woman's City Leadership Caucus, Women Helping Women, American Women Judges Association, OSU Alumni Board, Cub Scout Den Mother, the Ohio Job Partnership Training Act Board, currently serves as Trustee of the Jerusalem Meadows Elder Housing Board and New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, and si a former Trustee of the Cincinnati Bar Association. She is active with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Drifter, Inc.

Her Honor currently resides in Evendale with her don, David. Judge Allen frequently speaks to civic community and especially young groups and Christian women's groups, and is active in the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, where she sings in the choir, and has taught Children's Church. She also serves on its Board of Trustees, and chairs the Political Education Committee.
