Student achievement is not something that is magically implemented. Achievement takes time and teamwork. This district's Continuous Improvement Plan has been the right first step. However, much work remains. One important aspect of student achievement is the continued harmony between board, administration and community. In light of our ever-changing student population, issues such as redistricting, English as a second Language and grade-level structure become important factors. The ability for these three groups to work together is vital to student achievement

As a parent of two students in the Norwood City Schools and as a concerned citizen, I have a vested interest in the success of this district. I hope to focus attention on the current problems facing our schools and bring ideas from the community to the table. I will work to make your schools accountable and accessible to you.

Academic achievement and graduation rates can be improved by offering educational counseling services to students and their families from elementary through the high school grades. Student-student and teacher-student mentoring programs which assist at-risk children can be implemented as well. Teachers need to be offered the latest training and in-service on inquiry-style teaching to improve math and science state proficiency scores.
