CONFIGURATION OF SCHOOLS

By William R. "Bill" Tizzard

Candidate for Board Member; Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
I support maintaining a k-5, 6-8, 9-12 grade configuration for our schools. Smaller elementary schools provide a better learning environment for students, parents and staff. Also, smaller schools are more likely to become powerful learning communties.
I favor neighborhood schools wiwth set attendance areas. Parents and children within an attendance area are given priority when enrolling. Policies exist to handle inter-district permits. I envision all elementary schools in the district to be K-5, the middle school to be 6-8, and the high school to be 9-12. In my experience, smaller elementary school provide better learning environments for students and parents. Building better student/parent/school connections will also foster stronger school learning communities. Neighborhood schools should mitigate some tramsportation costs currently incurred by the district.
