Candidate for
Board Member; Sylvan Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate

My core belief is that with every decision or discussion we MUST be able to answer this question: "How does this benefit the children of our District."

I believe that my goals are fairly simple and yet fundamental to a quality educational program for our children. Specifically I expect to address issues relating to the dramatic growth our District currently faces and more importantly will continue to face in the future. As a Board member it will be incumbant on me to work with my colleagues to ensure we provide clear, concise direction on how our District should prepare for the future.

I know first hand how important it is to provide a positive environment in our schools. In fact, before our 11 year old was to start kindergarten we interviewed and studyed various schools, both public and private. My wife and I chose to move to our current home to give our three children the opportunity to go to Sherwood School and grow through the Sylvan District. I am absolutely committed to building on the foundation of excellence within this District.

I believe it is important to continue to focus on bringing technology into the classroom. My goal will be to look to ways to accelerate the current technology plan as well as to evaluate new concepts and ideas that may provide opportunity for learning in the classroom.

As a financial advisor I believe I can bring a strong skill set to the responsibility of reviewing and approving a budget that is expected to reach nearly $30 million for 2001-2002.

Finally I intend to address an issue that is and should always be a part of our District agenda. That is the safety of our children. In addition to discussing the variety of safety issues that may come to the Board, I see my role here to also be an extra "set of eyes" for the District. Whether I'm touring a particular campus on a given day or just dropping of my kids at school you have my commitment that campus security will always be on my mind.
