Candidate for Councilmember; City of Brisbane

1) Modest increase in the water and sewer rates now, rest spread over 5 years. 2) Say No to Brisbane San Francisco Utility District (MUD) 3) Allow a modest residential development for Quarry Project 4)Build the Tunnel Road Bridge now. 5) Keep Baylands out of the hands of the developers. 6) Preserve the open spaces and save the San Bruno mountain.
The city neglected the necessary repairs, as a result, existing systems are delapidated and require the major reconstruction. Some of the system components need to be changed as soon as possible to continue getting the reliable water supply. Currently, the city purchases its water from the San Francisco Water Department, which is converting the water system from chlorine based to Chloramine. In order to accomodate this new system, the city will have to retrofit its system. The city's sewer system has been deprived of any major repairs for a number of years. A major public health and safety problems could result if the essential components are not replaced or repair in a timely manner. The city's consultant recommended an increase of up to 300% to fix the current system, which will put the Brisbane among the cities with the highest rates and will create a tremendous burden on the low income families and seniors. If elected, my highest priority will be to get the Council to agree to immediately repair the components that require immediate fix and set up a realistic schedule for the rest. I will work with the city staff and the council to set up the rate schedule that will be spread over five years period. I will also recommend the income based rates so that our seniors and low income families can still afford to live in Brisbane.
