Phil Ting is a problem solver and an effective advocate.

As a graduate of Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, Phil has been trained and educated in effective policy making. As Chair of the Citizens' Committee on Community Development, Phil advises the Mayor's office and the Board of Supervisors on over $25 million of Community Development Block Grant funding for housing and social service agencies across the city. By setting and developing policy, the Citizens' Committee supports San Francisco's vibrant non-profit community.

As a Senior Consultant at Arthur Andersen, Phil worked to make government and corporations more efficient and effective. He evaluated key organizational processes and streamlined operations for The State of California, Applied Materials and Sun Microsystems identifying cost savings for each organization.

Phil has a history of fighting for educational access, greater financial aid and more classes for undergraduates. Today, Phil carries the same commitment to his work at San Francisco State University as an Associate Director of Community Relations, where he makes the university more responsive to the people it serves. Additionally, Phil fights to insure funding for public higher education and SFSU from the California State Legislature.

Phil will use his real estate and land use skills on the Municipal Utilities District. At CB Richard Ellis and SSR Realty Advisors, Phil assisted the California Pension Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTERS) in their purchase of multifamily housing for their pension funds.

As President of the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) San Francisco Bay Chapter, Phil works to help Asian and Chinese Americans become greater participants in American society. By building bridges with other communities, Phil fights intolerance and hate of all kinds. Phil spent the last year fighting for the due process and fair treatment of Dr. Wen Ho Lee.
