EXPERIENCE • INTEGRITY • ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Statement of Objectives # I intend to:

• Work hard to provide reliable, low-cost power for all San Francisco and Brisbane residents with a rate structure that encourages conservation and provides lifeline rates for lower income customers.

• Create a strong consumer/customer service ethic to guide M.U.D. agency operations and service. Make M.U.D. open, accountable and customer-friendly.

• Strengthen and expand energy efficiency and conservation programs, dramatically increase the use of renewables (solar, wind, etc.), and ESTABLISH THE MOST ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE UTILITY AGENCY IN THE COUNTRY. Move toward an innovative clean distributed generation system along the lines of the model offered by Amory Lovins of the Rocky Mountain Institute.

• Develop financially sound operations and revenue plans for the newly formed M.U.D. Ensure a smooth, well-planned transition and timely with workers retaining union jobs with good benefits and improved working conditions.

• Establish positive working relationship with City PUC (or new water & power agency) to ensure that Hetch Hetchty power is used on a `San Francisco first' basis.

• Develop priority plan and timeline to shut down the old and dirty power plants in Hunters Point and Potrero Hill. Focus power generation on renewables (e.g. solar, wind), better efficiency and conservation in the residential and commercial sectors, purchasing clean energy (e.g. geothermal) on the market with medium and long-term contracts, and if necessary, use of new, cleaner, state-of-the-art natural gas technology on a small scale. Over time, overall emphasis should be away from fossil fuels and toward clean energy sources.

• Work with the cities of San Francisco and Brisbane to institute innovative energy and environmental programs such `green building' construction requirements.
