In my next term, I will focus on three (3) matters: finances, traffic and traffic safety, and affordable housing. These three objectives are the same issues I voted to support while representing Palo Alto at a recent Santa Clara County Cities' Association meeting. On finances, I will recommend contingency planning, hiring cautions, a base services and programs review, and no budget increases. On traffic, I support a multi-solution approach, including expanding enforcement, engineering and educational solutions, but also considering new bike and pedestrian paths (Bicycle Master Plan), using the new traffic light system as a possible tool to slow traffic, expanding our shuttle service, a trip reduction program (Way2Go), and transportation reduction programs. On affordable housing, I will support funding new or saving existing projects, and will consider relaxing some site and design requirements near transit centers for community serving projects. The Terman Apartments need to be retained as affordable housing. I will consider the following affordable housing projects: SOFA, a homeless Opportunity Center, and a new project funded partly through the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County.
