Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Kris Thomasian

Candidate for
Member, Governing Board; Murrieta Valley Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

As a classroom volunteer, PTA President and Board member, Girl Scout Leader, and School Bond Advisory Committee Chairperson, I am aware of the positive and negative elements of our district. If elected, I would work to further our successes and face andmeet challenges with a proactive approach.

Effective planning for growth is essential in our rapidly growing district. We see the result of poor planning with our high school students struggling in severely overcrowded conditions.

Fiscal accountability is fundamental, as the school board is responsible for managing our tax dollars wisely. This past year, overspending resulted in funding cuts for textbooks and positions at school sites in order to balance the budget. I believe we need to streamline district level administration and direct more money back to the students. Tax dollars could be stretched by working cooperatively with the city and county to develop jointprojects such as libraries and recreation facilities.

Communication with families and community members can be improved by the creation of advisory groups and community forums. I will work to increase family and community involvement in our schools to create the best educational system available for our children.
