This year, College of Marin celebrates 75 years of excellence in education. Our community college is a place where goals are achieved. It is a genuine community asset that enables students' hopes to be fulfilled and dreams realized.

When elected as Trustee of the Marin Community College District Board four years ago, financial problems and enrollment declines were key challenges facing the college.

During my four years as Trustee, College of Marin:

- committed to a high transfer rate, flexible class schedules, career education responsive to industry and student needs, and specialized programs in health, the environment, and technology
- took action to revitalize our Indian Valley Campus, including to increase the number of classes and to analyze viable options to better utilize IVC
- worked more closely with our high schools to encourage their students to attend College of Marin
- began more marketing and outreach to make it common knowledge that College of Marin has the highest student transfer rate to the University of California system in the state.

The College of Marin has also worked very hard to develop new and innovative partnerships. A highly effective partnership with the College of Marin Foundation board and staff is creating greater access to the College by larger numbers of students. And, working with the Marin Education Fund and the College of Marin Foundation, we are addressing a high priority of many students by providing affordable high quality, comprehensive child care services on our campuses.

Another innovative program addresses the shortage of teachers in California. The College of Marin joining with the Dixie School District, Sonoma State University and Dominican University established a fast-track teacher credential program that enables participants to take their first two years at College of Marin, transfer to one of the two universities to complete their degree and credential requirements in another two years. This allows the student to begin teaching one year earlier.

Utilizing strategic alliances, important projects were successfully completed including the renovation of our athletic fields at our Kentfield campus in partnership with the Branson School and construction of new athletic fields at our Novato campus in partnership with the City of Novato.

To be sure, challenges remain to be confronted. Keeping our physical plants well maintained are costly goals. Making available to our students the best technologically advanced learning equipment is also essential. Standard State funding formulas will not result in producing all of the financial resources needed to accomplish our vision. We must seek and obtain the support of our larger community including foundations, community donations or, similar to the K-12 districts, consider taxing alternatives.

I want to be a part of the future of College of Marin, working to address each challenge and expand opportunities so that our community college is recognized as one of Marin's greatest community assets.

I respectfully ask for your vote on November 6th,

WANDEN P. TREANOR, Trustee, Marin Community College District
