Upon graduating from law school, I worked as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in Chicago, Illinois. After my three children were born, I worked part-time for various arbitrators and as a volunteer in my children's schools in Wilmette, Illinois. I also served on the library board there. I moved to Kentfield with my family in 1990, and immediately began work as a volunteer at Legal Aid. I continued my school volunteer work at Bacich Elementary School and Kent Middle School. While public schools have been the focus of my volunteer work, I have also been active with several breast cancer organizations, raising funds and awareness. In 1997, I ran for the Tamalpais Union High School District (TUHSD) board. I was unopposed, and I have served in this position for four years. I think public education, after public safety, is the most important function of local government. In my four years on the board, I have been a deeply engaged board member. I have spent a lot of time at all five schools, observing students engaged in their every day activities as well as seeing numerous athletic contests, plays, and special assemblies. I have served on numerous committees, including the district's athletic council, teacher negotiations, the Marin County School Boards Association, and the Education Task Force. This past year I have been president of the TUHSD board. I have participated in numerous lobbying efforts in Sacramento to get our schools the resources they need. I have two sons that recently graduated from Redwood and a daughter who is a student there now.
