Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Gregory E. "Greg" Breen

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Hermosa Beach City Elementary School District

The role of the School Board

I believe the education function rests on three pillars: education, administration and governance. The Board's responsibility is the third, and touches the first two through the enabling of responsible teachers and administrators. In this respect, the key role of the School Board is to integrate the school into the community by overseeing district activities, by empowering teachers and administrators, and by representing the needs of the school community to the world at large.

I have no political party affiliation, and have been an independent since I registered to vote. My role as a Trustee will be to ensure that our kids get a quality education, and that resources are used as effectively as possible. This is a fairly clear agenda, such that political philosophies become unimportant in the face of the larger objective of ensuring quality education.
