Trustee; Arcata School District

I have been on the Arcata School Board since my appointment in January 2001. I am a full-time Dad to my two boys, Pearse (6) and Kai (2). My wife, Eileen Cashman, teaches in the Environmental Resources Engineering department at HSU. We love Arcata and chose the Arcata School District because we believed in its mission and the way that mission was being carried out.

Current Community Service

Member, Governing Board, Arcata School District; coach for my son Pearse's soccer team; weekly volunteer in Bloomfield school classrooms; member of the City of Arcata's Energy Committee; spearheading the reinvigoration of the Arcata School District Educational Endowment fund.

Education

Attended public schools in Northfield, Minnesota, K-12. B.A. (1985) Philosophy and Religion, St. Olaf College; M.S. (1990) Energy Analysis and Policy, University of Wisconsin-Madison; Ph.D. (1994) Environmental Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Other

I was born and raised in Minnesota. My father, William Narum, was a professor of philosophy who taught at St. Olaf College for 47 years before his death in May 2000. My mother, Jeanne Narum, is the director of Project Kaleidoscope (http://www.pkal.org), a program funded by the National Science Foundation to improve science and mathematics education in our nation's undergraduate institutions.
