Alberto Torrico graduated from Santa Clara University in 1991. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science. Immediately after graduating, he worked as a Policy Aide for the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. His areas of responsibility included: law enforcement, corrections, housing, children's programs, and other youth issues.

After working for Santa Clara County, Alberto attended Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. He graduated from law school and passed the bar exam in 1995. He immediately landed a job with the Van Bourg law firm. During his tenure with the Van Bourg firm, Alberto represented labor unions throughout California for four years.

In January of 2000, Alberto accepted a position at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). Alberto is Senior Assistant Counsel at VTA. (VTA) is an independent special district responsible for bus, light rail and paratransit operations; congestion management; specific highway improvement projects; and, countywide transportation planning. As such, VTA is both an accessible transit provider and multi-modal transportation planning organization involved with transit, highways and roadways, bikeways and pedestrian facilities.

During the past ten years Torrico has been a soccer coach, "street law" instructor, and peer counselor. He has worked with young people throughout the Bay Area. Currently, Alberto is an Assistant Coach with the Newark Vipers, a team for boys ages 14 and under.

He is a native Californian. He was born in San Francisco, California in 1969, to immigrant parents. Alberto has lived in the Tri-Cities area since 1980. Alberto and his wife, Raquel, purchased a home in Newark in the summer of 2000. They are the proud parents of Mateo, who will turn one just a few weeks after the election.

Alberto's parents, Tomas, a VTA light rail operator, and Esperanza, a mail-handler, currently live in Fremont. Alberto has three younger brother's who all live in the Bay Area as well. Cesar is a vice-principal in a San Jose middle school. Fabian is a police officer in San Jose. And, Tomas, Jr., is a college student.
