Recycling in Castro Valley Schools

By Dave A. Sadoff

Candidate for Board Member; Castro Valley Sanitary District

This information is provided by the candidate
A formal recycling program needs to be initiated in our schools. Currently, a lot of recyclable material is being thrown away.
The Castro Valley schools are fertile ground for solid waste diversion by recycling, and for recycling education. The placement of recycling bins in strategic locations would help keep a lot of recyclable material out of our landfill. A comprehensive school recycling program would offer these kids recycling information and encouragement. The lessons learned from such a program would extend beyond the school boundaries, and into their everyday life.

As a can drive volunteer at Proctor Elementary last year, I was encouraged to see so many children enthusiastically support recycling efforts. They are ready, willing and able to recycle - they just need the Castro Valley Sanitary District's help.

I will strive to focus the Board on the implementation of a comprehensive program for recycling in our schools. This type of program is very important, and I intend to see it through during my term on the Board.
