Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Richard K. Tanaka

Candidate for
Council member; City of San Jose; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate

Our neighborhoods will face many changes in the next few years. The BART extension, the continued growth of our neighborhoods, and other pressing issues will require dedicated leadership. I am running for the San Jose City Council because, after my many years of service, I know I can make a real difference in our community. As the former Chair of the San Jose Bicentennial Commission, and as an active community leader, I know what it takes to bring real improvements to our schools, our neighborhoods and our city.

As an elected Trustee of the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District and a former East Side Union High School Board of Trustees Member, I will make sure our schools and our city work closely together to improve services to our students from preschool through college.

As an Urban Planner, I know what it takes to protect our neighborhoods. I will review high-density developments being proposed now, in the Corridor of the future BART and Light Rail lines.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, or to join my campaign. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to meeting you on our campaign trail!
