A Commitment to La Verne: Family-Home-Work-Church-Service

Family & Home:

Steve is a 5th generation resident and will be the 4th generation to serve the city. " I take pride in my fathers service to La Verne and I will try to continue the tradition of service. I understand the commitment to being available and approachable and to listen to your concerns. I plan to bring a common sense approach to problem solving and decision making."

My wife Lori Castellano Johnson, Daughter of Jesse & Betty Castellano, is a 3rd generation resident of La Verne. Lori has worked in La Verne at Vons for over 20 years. Lori's father Jesse taught at Roynon and Grace Miller School before retiring. "Both Lori and I have extensive extended families living in La Verne."

Steve and Lori were married in 1984 and have two children, Stephanie is 10 and Trevor is 8, they both attend Roynon School. Trevor and Stephanie are fortunate to have a Grandmother and two sets of Aunts and Uncles on the same street. Steve's parents now live at Hillcrest Homes in La Verne, (still within walking distance).

Work & Service:

In 1983 at the age of 21 Steve graduated from the University of La Verne and started an Insurance agency with Farmers Insurance. , In 1989 Steve purchased an office in La Verne. Steve is currently an Insurance broker, Notary, and recently added the title of Financial Services Agent after passing the S.E.C. and N.A.S.D. 6 & 63 exams (mutual funds).

In 1984 Steve joined the La Verne Rotary, a community service club. Steve is scheduled to be a Board Member this year. Over the years Steve has supported programs such as Teacher Mini-Grants, RYLA youth leadership training, Easter Egg Hunts, Senior Lunch Programs at the Community Center, Free 4th of July Watermelon, and the All-Star Basketball Game.

Church:

Steve and Lori both have been active at the La Verne Church of the Brethren, having both been raised as members of the church. Lori has served as Wedding Coordinator and Steve regularly serves as Sound Engineer. Steve has also served two terms as Property Commission Chair, and as a Board Member. Currently Steve and Lori are serving on the Fellowship Committee and as Deacons.

Room Parent & Youth Sports:

Steve also takes the time to help in Trevor's 2nd grade class as a Co-room Parent. Helping with the Pilgrim Feast and Christmas-Hanukkah Party. Steve has volunteered as an assistant coach for both Stephanie and Trevor's sports including T-Ball, Soccer, and currently Basketball.
