TOP PRIORITIES

  • Protect Our Neighborhoods & Quality of Life

Development should be balanced. The wrong planning decisions can lead to over-development, causing an onslaught of new citywide problems, such as maddening traffic congestion and strained city services and resources, which detract from our community's value and aesthetic appeal.

A City Council member needs to be steeped in the how to's of community planning in order to make the right decisions when faced with development issues.

Over the past 5 years, Ciran Hadjian, a certified city planner and former Pasadena Planning Commissioner, has been called upon to do just that, advising the Pasadena City Council with its planning projects, including the South Lake Avenue Retail Development, the South Fair Oaks Bio-Tech Center Specific Plan, and the Caltech Master Development Plan.

Her work helped establish a moratorium on the creation of flag lots [stacking homes on a lot, one behind the other, with a shared driveway to economize space] and subdivisions in the San Pasqual-California Corridor to preserve the scale and character of the single-family residential area.

Right now it's particularly important to bring more of Hadjian's ability to the City Council. Many Pasadena planning decisions loom ahead. This year the City will revise and update it's General Plan and Zoning Code. If elected, Hadjian will be invaluable in helping maintain Pasadena's historic character, culture and integrity.

  • Revive South Lake Avenue

Pasadena's South Lake Avenue continues to decline in business growth and profitability, suffering a string of recent building vacancies. We need to make our main street, the cosmopolitan, vibrant and scenic South Lake Avenue we've long known. As a proactive City Council member, Ciran Hadjian will continue to work to ensure its livelihood. Her past community efforts speak to her commitment to build the best Pasadena.

As a former member of the City's Planning Commission, Ciran Hadjian was instrumental in advancing appropriate development on South Lake Avenue--shaping projects that revitalize yet maintain appropriate scale and historic character.

As a City Council member Ciran Hadjian will be a dynamic voice for South Lake Avenue putting her city planning and revitalization expertise to work. She will ensure that the appropriate development and design guidelines are in place for our shopping district. She will aggressively fight for new ways to save our businesses, including marketing resources and business retention strategies.

  • Advance Technology

Our local governments could benefit by updating their technological hardware and software equipment. Targeted tech improvements would dramatically help deliver government services community wide.

Pasadena shouldn't fall behind other cities in the use of basic technology. Instead, it should be a leader in the use of cost-efficient and practical enhancements, those taken for granted in the private sector. A tech savvy City Council member can better advocate for the implementation of newer technology.

By leveraging her knowledge of the most productive management equipment, Ciran Hadjian will work for the fast and easy delivery of city services, selectively integrating these enhancements. Foremost, she will pursue ways to ensure that the City's Web site is user-friendly, interactive and current. She will advocate for electronic access to City information and services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Improve Our Public Schools & Libraries

The schools in the Pasadena Unified School District, surrounded by the likes of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Art Center College of Design, The Huntington Library, Caltech, and the Norton Simon Museum, may share sidewalks with renowned institutions but little else. The Pasadena educational system is in terrible need of reform, remaining a sore spot for a city that usually heralds the best.

Improving our educational system is an important priority for Ciran Hadjian, who currently serves as a City Library Commissioner. Hadjian reached out to our most important constituent-our children-when she voted to extend the hours of service at branch libraries, enabling them to make the most of these necessary resources.

As a City Council member of the 7th District, Hadjian will orchestrate management and tech initiatives, and partnerships that will improve our educational system without burdening taxpayers. She is committed to finding creative ways to engage Pasadena's youth in reading and scholarship.
