Government Accountability

By Heather W Green

Candidate for Council Member; City of San Dimas

This information is provided by the candidate
Everyone makes mistakes, but shouldn't we all be held accountable?
When my husband and I moved to San Dimas with our four children, we knew we had found the place we had been searching for. A safe city with great schools and a rich western heritage. We found a beautiful piece of property and began preparations to build a home.

We soon learned that the property we had purchased had been improperly subdivided by the city and had left us with no access. We were delayed in our construction for over two years, all because of a mistake made by the city. I addressed the current council on many occassions asking for them to intercede and to please find a solution to the problem they had created. I got no response.

Thankfully, through other channels we are resolving our issue, but I have been disenchanted with our current city leadership. The delays have taken a tremendous emotional and financial toll on our family. If the city council is not here to serve its city's families, then why are they here? The city council has known of this problem and has even accknowledged that they are responsible, but has done nothing to help resolve it. In my opinion, that is an ineffective city council. I ask no more from my government than I ask of my four children; If you make a mess, clean it up.

I understand that taking responsibility for one's actions is difficult. It is the pinnacle of courage. True courage is letting truth and honesty rise above and become greater than one's fear. I see little of that in our current leadership, and am offering that through my candidacy.

I have taught my children that if they are uncomfortable with a situation they have found themselves in that they have one of two options: One, they can move themselves away from the situation, and two, they can get involved and make it better. I am not leaving San Dimas. I am here to make it better, and with your vote I will do just that.
