I am a candidate for the Republican nomination for State Representative because I believe my combination of experience, education, community involvement and desire will enable me to be an effective Representative for all residents of the 72nd District.

Rose Vesper currently holds this seat. Term limits prevent her from running again. I am honored Rose and her husband, Dr. Lee Vesper, are co-chairing my campaign.

When I am out in the district I frequently hear "Rose has done a great job. You sure do have big shoes to fill!" Yes, Rose set high standards. But should you expect anything less? I will continue the tradition of outstanding representation by being visible, accessible and responsive to residents of the 72nd District. I am confident in my ability to fulfill this pledge because my professional experience, community involvement and education give me the background to serve the diverse interests of this District.

Rose Vesper is putting her reputation behind my candidacy: "Having served the District for almost eight years, I know Tom has the talent, experience and commitment to make an outstanding State Representative. Trust me, he is the right person for the job. He will be there when you need him." - State Representative Rose Vesper

It's one thing to have the skills for the job, and another to have the desire. I have that desire. And it is not just campaign talk. I've demonstrated my ability and willingness to serve through more than 25 years of involvement in education, community and business activities. A partial list is included in the Personal & Professional section of my web page. I have seen how one person can make a difference, and how the collective, coordinated efforts of numerous individuals can be even more effective. I will bring that same passion of working cooperatively with you to the position of State Representative.

The sincere, active support of Rose and other respected officials from the community is a tremendous asset for my campaign. There are others. My community involvement provides an extensive network of contacts that keep me informed about key issues. My education provides the tools to help me seek out information and analyze complex issues. My business experience reinforces the importance of an environment that provides opportunities, not obstacles, for small business owners and a strong, locally controlled education system.

As a newspaper editor and publisher I worked with many individuals and groups interested in publicity and endorsements. I learned to listen to different opinions, take a public position and print it for all to see. Throughout this process I developed a reputation for honesty, integrity and trust. I heard your concerns these past seven months as I attend numerous functions. I will continue to listen and be responsive to your concerns as your next State Representative.

It's hard to convey the enthusiasm and desire I have for this position in a written communication. I look forward to an opportunity to discuss my candidacy and your issues in person.
