Educational Reform

By Wayne E. Coates

Candidate for State Representative; District 32

This information is provided by the candidate
We need true educational reform that eliminates state mandates and arbitrary funding caps.
State government should return the education of our children back to our local school district and parents. We should fight attempts to remove local revenue from our local school districts. We should restore state funding to their 1988 percentage levels and reduce the tax burden to local property owners. We should eliminate childhood stresses brought on by early grade proficiency testing. Early grade testing should only be used to identify at-risk children, not as a punitive punishment. I support review of our state educational testing system, and I am calling for calibrating the proficiency test to match the curriculum, and stop teaching to the test.
