Candidate Statement

By Jackie Rodgers

Candidate for City Clerk; City of Oxnard

This information is provided by the candidate
I am a lifelong resident of Oxnard, grew up in the Colonia neighborhood, and attended local public schools. I am an active member of numerous local community organizations, including the PTA, BAPAC, and the NAACP.

In recent years, the office of the City Clerk has been in disarray. The Grand Jury, after a routine request for documents, concluded the Clerk's office was "very uncooperative and discourteous," ranking the office last in efficiency and responsiveness.

As a former Oxnard city employee, and as Deputy Clerk of a Board of Supervisors, I understand how to run an effective Clerk's office. I will reduce red tape and bureaucracy at City Hall, eliminating waste and inefficiency, and utilizing technology making government more accessible to the people.

My top priority as City Clerk will be to transform the office into the open and responsive office that it once was, respectful of the needs of the people of Oxnard. Minutes of the meetings of the City Council and the various boards and commissions will be completed on time and accurately.

I will be a hard working public servant for the people of Oxnard, and I would appreciate your vote on November 7.
