Priority Entry to Local Students

(LA Times, Ventura County Section, "CSUCI Head Vows Local Applicants to Get Priority", June 8, 2000)

As a member of our community, a student of higher education and a supporter of university-ready transfer students, I applaud the California State System action of guaranteeing reservations for local students who qualify for admission.

A special recognition goes to Handel Evans for his support in ensuring that local high school and community college transfers get priority for enrollment at the university level.

This is a major step in allowing our students access to bachelor's degrees without having to move out of the area to attend schools. Our students can continue to grow, focusing on their studies while staying at home or close to home. This environment will afford many not only the stability but also the financial means to support and heighten successful student learning.

As a future member of the Board of Trustees, I look forward to working with CSUCI on crafting an understanding that will deliver priority admission for qualifying local students.
