An airport at El Toro?

By Bob Vondruska

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 70

This information is provided by the candidate
The battle over whether to build an airport at El Toro is between all of South Orange County and one rich and arrogant man who just can't take no for an answer.
The El Toro Airport would not even be an issue if one man named George would stop spending millions of dollars to shove his ludicrous plan down the throats of Orange County residents. He has started two pro-airport groups that have no support except for the money that he himself contributes. He has been able to control 3 of our County Supervisors like puppets on a string. More than $25 million dollars has been spent so far on an unapproved airport plan. This airport plan has been proven to be unsafe by the Airline Pilots Association. It would not be a turn-key operation as the pro-airport camp has claimed. The runways are not strong enough to withstand the weight of commercial aircraft and would require a $263 million dollar renovation. The noise, pollution and loss of property values to surrounding communities would be devastating but do you think that George cares? This campaign to build an airport at El Toro has been marred by lies and misinformation since it was begun in 1994. For this reason, it is imperative that we end this pathetic boondoggle. I will as a Representative of this District and if necessary after Measure F propose legislation that that will stop the airport. I will not however back down to pro-airport opposition like our local Assemblywoman has done. We need people with principles to represent this district. We need Libertarians!
