A Libertarian View

People who vote generally are voting on the size of government they want. Some consider government too small and desire further supervision in our lives. They reason that taxes should be raised so government can do more for us. Others believe that government is just the right size, but that we can reduce government spending through efficiency and additional regulations on personal freedoms. What these voters have in common is their dependency on politicians doing the right thing with our money and freedom of choice.

These people typically vote for one of the two major parties. Each party has consistently proven their ability in creating more programs and revenue for the government than the previously elected party had. One party may say they'll cut taxes, but you can count on them adding more programs. The other will say they can make government more efficient but still refuse to lower taxes.

People who don't vote are generally indifferent to politics. They don't believe elected politicians can change anything. They have either lost faith in the system, or never had it in the first place. They don't trust politicians, sense that big government doesn't work and think they have no representation.

These people are becoming the majority. They are opting out of the political process. They just want to be left on their own to run their lives as they see fit with minimal government interference.

If you're one of the politically homeless and feel that you have no representation, I would like you to know that I felt the same way. I don't have any favorite government programs and am very leery of the direction we are heading.

I believe that respect for individual rights and limited government are essential for a free and prosperous society. The two parties can no longer be depended upon to defend the intent of our constitution. That is why I became a Libertarian. That is why I'm running for office. Voting Libertarian will limit government and expand your life by getting us back to the basics of government defending the rights of the individual.

If elected, I promise to vote against any tax or law restricting personal freedoms. I will also submit legislation reducing and consolidating taxation.
