Experience for America's 21st Century

A businessman with deep community roots, Claude Hutchison offers the education, experience and vision to help move America forward -- now, at a time when Americans are demanding greater accountability over how tax revenues are managed and invested.

Born and raised in the East Bay, he attended local public schools and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. After service as an officer in the U.S. Navy, he earned an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1965, then returned home to resume his banking career ultimately serving as President, Director and Chief Operating Officer of Security National Bank in Walnut Creek.

In 1983, he founded CivicBank of Commerce in Oakland to serve the East Bay's independent business and professional communities.

He is now Managing Director for Navigant Consulting, Inc., an international management consulting firm, and the Director of Summit Medical Center in Oakland. He also served as Director for HEALS and QualMed Plans for Health, two Bay Area health services companies.

In addition to his local business experience, Claude offers over thirty years of active community service, where his focus has been on education. He served as President of the Lafayette School Board and as a Regent for the University of California. He also served as Director and President of the California Alumni Association, Director and Executive Vice President of the Oakland Chamber of Commerce and is currently a member of the One Hundred Club, a group of civic leaders in support of the Oakland Boys and Girls Club.

He is also past president of the Commonwealth Club of California, a nationally acclaimed public affairs forum.

Claude and his wife, Sue, a former elementary school teacher, have been married 37 years. They have three grown children -- Scott, Kelly and Kacy -- and a new granddaughter, Alexandra.

For over thirty years, my focus has been on Main Street, not Wall Street. I've worked to strengthen our East Bay economy by providing people with the resources to start businesses, buy homes, create jobs and gain financial security. For me, people have always been the real bottom line. It's their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit that make America work.
