Since Social Security is the backbone of many Americans' retirement, preserving and protecting it for present and future must be a national priority.
Since Social Security is the backbone of many Americans' retirement, preserving and protecting it for present and future must be a national priority. Our government must keep its promises to those who have paid faithfully into the system over the years.

Right now there are many in Congress who support irresponsible tax plans that that threaten the Social Security Trust Fund. I don't think that's the right way to go. In this a time of prosperity our first priority should be to strengthen Social Security and Medicare. We can use part of the budget surplus to pay down the debt and put the money we save into Social Security. And we should help seniors facing the spiraling costs of medicine by expanding Medicare to include a prescription drug benefit.

I also support creating some targeted tax credits, including a tax credit for long-term care. From my own experience caring for my aging parents, I understand the need to make families secure with their options for long-term care.
