Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Ed Gilardi

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Cotati/Rohnert Park Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

Ed will continue to fight for the necessary funds for early intervention reading and math programs. To be successful, students need a strong start in the basics during the early years. Basics must come first.

SB1777 allowed for reduced classroom sizes in grades K through 3 within our District. Ed would like to see that program expanded to reduce the student to teacher ratio in more grades.

Four years ago, Ed promised to improve communication between the School District and the community. We now have a quarterly newsletter, web site, and District brochure. We also started an outreach program with our local realtors, began hosting school tours and created the "Principal for the Day" program.

Ed believes every student should be a lifelong learner. In support of his philosophy, he completed the "Master of Boardsmanship" program and is enrolled in the "Master of Governance" program. Both are offered by the California School Boards Association to provide education and development of School Board members.

From the beginning, Ed supported the Technology High School Program at Sonoma State, which opened in the fall of 1999. These intense math, science and engineering courses prepare students for the ever changing needs of today's high-tech businesses. Our innovative program and unique relationship with Sonoma State University and technology businesses is now being recognized around the State.
