Growth and Development

By Sal Torres

Candidate for Council Member; City of Daly City

This information is provided by the candidate
Daly City's population topped the 100,000 mark in 1999 and city government must be prepared to absorb this growth in a positive way.
To contend with our rapid growth, I feel our municipal government must encourage more workforce housing, work with county officials to improve bus service, continually reappraise local traffic patterns and monitor usage of parks, libraries and public facilities to better accomodate our growing population.

Because land is precious and there is little room for new construction, land use and planning that maximizes potential without being intrusive or otherwise negitavely impacting existing neighborhoods must be a priority.

Due to storm damage to homes built several decades ago, some of our citizens experienced devastating losses. The conditions that caused this could not be forseen in the era these homes were built. While we cannot erase what has happened, we can and must use every modern, scientific tool available when planning new developments to ensure that safety and security are number one priorities.
