I have a long history of becoming completely engulfed in civic affairs, towards the end of maximizing my impact on the human condition consistent with my talents and resources. I believe that my education, experience, and propensity to serve can make a real difference in the future of this community.

My education is broad, and has considerable depth; including architectural engineering, mathematics, international relations, electronics, astronautics and space systems, aerospace management, systems management, and is capped with a Ph.D. in Public Administration. I have called Penn State, Nebraska, Wyoming and USC home.

My experience is also broad, having early experience with management as the farm boss on the family farm at the age of 15 during World War II and working the coal mines of Pennsylvania during summers while attending Penn State, the first of my family to attend college (I am number twelve of fourteen).

Architectural Engineering was interrupted by the Air Force where I served for 20 years exiting as a Lieutenant Colonel with 134 night combat missions, and extensive research and development work including Director of Research at the Air Force's West Coast Study Facility and the Rand Corporation.

Teaching experience at Pepperdine and Golden Gate Universities were enriched by concurrent consulting assignments for San Francisco, Los Angeles and a host of overseas assignments, followed by a federal appointment as Secretarial Representative for the Secretary of Commerce during the Carter administration.

Ten years with the Bechtel Corporation offered a very rich environment to experience the making of the global economy from the inside. I was responsible for developing the organizational and management structure for a new city in Saudi Arabia, including the recruiting and training of a 6,000 person city workforce.

This broad-based education and experience is driven by my desire to serve, evidenced by my service to the Red Cross, United Way, Children's Services Network, Court Appointed Advocates for Children, Softec, Economic Forecast Project, Economic Advisory Committee, Chamber of Commerce, the Diversity Council, the California Space and Technology Alliance and the emerging California Central Coast Research partnership.
