Aaron is a long-time resident of North Beach, where he and his wife Nancy Shanahan own a small flat. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Aaron is a lifelong environmentalist. He is president of an environmental non-profit that secures water rights for Native Americans in Nevada. Previously, he worked as a Project Manager for the Trust for Public Land, where he helped protect local parks like the Grace Marchant Gardens and preserved open space throughout the West.

Aaron has been very active in neighborhood issues in District 3 and currently serves as President of the Telegraph Hill Dwellers, which has over 750 members and represents the residents of Telegraph Hill and North Beach. His record as a neighborhood leader speaks for itself...

  • Led the fight that saved the historic Colombo Building from the wrecking ball
  • Worked with neighbors to keep Rite-Aid out of the old Pagoda Theater
  • Created model legislation to protect small businesses and preserve neighborhood character
  • Helped get first-ever landmark status for Washington Square Park and enhanced Pioneer Park
  • Resisted unnecessary demolition of housing and unfair Ellis Act evictions
  • Won water quality safeguards for San Francisco Bay

In March, Aaron was elected to the Democratic County Central Committee from the 13th Assembly District with approximately 14,000 votes. He was proud to have the endorsement and support of the Latino Democratic Club, the Harvey Milk L/G/B/T Democratic Club, the San Francisco Tenants Union, the Chinese American Democratic Club, the Bernal Heights and Noe Valley Democratic Clubs, and the League of Conservation Voters among others.

Aaron recently received an "Unsung Hero" award from San Francisco Tomorrow for his successful efforts to preserve historic buildings and neighborhoods.
